Two teenagers in the town of Brunswick, Georgia, have been charged with the murder of a thirteen month old baby. Demarquis Elkins, 17, and his 14-year-old friend, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, are accused of fatally shooting Antonio Santiago after they demanded the boy’s mother to hand over all the money she had.
Emma West was walking her son through the coastal city of Brunswick when Elkins and the 14-year-old approached her. They asked her money but she told them she had none. “When you have a baby you spend all your money on babies. They’re expensive,” the mother said.
After telling the boys she had no money, one of the two boys fired four shots that hit Antonio Santiago in the face. “I put my arms over my baby and he shoved me, and then he shot my baby right in the head,” she said. Police chief Tobe Green said officers are doing their best to “turn every stone to make sure we get a motive.”
Elkins and the 14-year-old have both been charged with first-degree murder.
